National ranking of sea products from Awajishima Young sardines, Sea sand lances, sea weed “nori”

Young sardines and sea sand lances are very popular foods in the Kansai area, especially important calcium source for us, together with milk, another major product of Awajishima. These fish are captured in the shallow sea of northern Awajishima during winter season. Their productions are ranked at high levels in Japan.

Seaweed “nori” contains a lot of vitamins and is a Japanese soul food. Nori is cultivated from the northern shallow sea area using sea-beds. Its quality is quite high and known well as a national brand.

Sea bream is one of the most favorite fish and Japanese eat them at special occasions like weddings. Breams are captured around Akashi channel and Naruto channel. They have relatively thin skin and nice meat with a sweet taste. Rice with sea bream meat is well known. In the southern area of Awajishima sea bream with Japanese summer noodles (so-men) is a well-known local dish which is served at traditional cerebration dinners.
